Jamaican performer Ngozi Muzik Wright has made her feature-film debut in From a Yardie to a Yankee, the Jamaica Gleaner reports. The 14-year-old plays young India in the Jamaican-American production.

Written, directed and produced by Sardia Robinson, the film explores migration, loss and identity. Robinson told the newspaper that Wright brought a natural presence to the role and connected with the character’s quieter moments.

The production was filmed in Jamaica over 15 days. Wright’s previous experience includes dub poetry, Jamaica Cultural Development Commission competitions and a short film produced by her father, performer and educator Omaall “Majah Bless” Wright.

Her move into a full-length film adds another setting for a young performer whose work has already crossed stage, spoken word and screen.
