Beenie Man’s Who Am I Earns UK Gold Certification

Beenie Man’s Who Am I (Sim Simma) has earned a Gold certification in the United Kingdom. The Jamaica Observer reports that the British Phonographic Industry issued the award on October 23, recognising 400,000 units from combined sales and streaming.

Produced by Jeremy Harding on the Playground rhythm, the song helped carry dancehall to a wider international audience. It reached No. 10 in the UK and No. 40 on the US Billboard Hot 100, according to the Observer.

The UK award follows the recording’s American Gold certification. Decades after its original release, the milestone underlines the lasting audience for one of Beenie Man’s signature songs.
