Music stakeholders in Saint Lucia have agreed to establish a legally recognized organization representing the island’s calypso, soca and Dennery Segment communities.
The decision followed a September 5 meeting at Castries City Hall attended by artists, administrators and music-industry representatives. A five-member committee will review and update the constitution of the existing SLCA2009 organization and consider a new name that reflects all three communities.
The initiative has received support from Creative Industries Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire, Eastern Caribbean Collective Organisation for Music Rights chairman Martin James and copyright attorney Thaddeus Antoine.
The committee is expected to propose a revised constitution and a process for electing officers. If completed, the new body could give Saint Lucian music practitioners a stronger structure for advocacy, collaboration and representation across the creative industries.
